The physical characteristics of the tunnel NDErs describe vary widely. The most common colors are pitch black, deep red, gray, or a bluish hue. The tunnel may be solid and opaque, amorphous, and translucent, rough or smooth, shiny and wet or dry to the touch.

It is difficult to gauge the tunnel’s overall size as descriptions vary widely. On balance, we are left with the impression that it is roundish in shape, not too wide, and with a flat, uncluttered path.

While we most often associate the tunnel with a bright light at its endpoint, very often the NDEr will describe brilliant white “pin-dots” all around them within, or at the end of the tunnel.

While NDErs know they are moving away from earth, we rarely hear where they think they are going, or where they believe they are located when they arrive.

Beings encountered in the tunnel, which is not uncommon, are never people they knew on this plane, who are still alive. They are deceased loved ones, people they don’t recognize, or spiritual beings. In many cases, they have encountered people they thought to still be alive who had already crossed over. In most cases, there is the sense these beings are there to greet and guide them on the first leg of their journey.

The tunnel is one of the main examples of an NDE feature that is *not* commonly found across cultures.

The tunnel is merely symbolic of entering darkness and emerging into the light

The tunnel experience is the crossing from the physical realm to the nonlocal realm where everything and everybody is connected, all is ONE, past and future are available, it is beyond time and space, and there is unconditional love.
