Presence of God

God is most often described as male, and when identified by an NDEr as representing a specific religion, is most often described as the Judeo-Christian God. There is rarely a mention of another God or well-known spiritual figure encountered in this realm — Allah, the Buddha, Brahman. This is likely due, in large part, to the fact that an overwhelming majority of the testimonials researched and presented in this book are from people who live in predominantly Christian, English-speaking countries: the United States, U.K, Australia, and Canada.

Whether God, Jesus, or other god or god-like beings, it is extremely uncommon that they speak in what we might describe as “religious language.” Their conversations are clear, simple, approachable, and direct. 

Many report feeling unworthy to be in their presence and a feeling they should not look directly into their eyes. These encounters most often portray an all-loving, non-judgmental, nurturing presence who displays a sense of humor and a palpable joy at being with the NDEr.

Non-Christians rarely see Jesus or the Christian god. Similarly, Christians do not usually report seeing the Buddha, Krishna, etc. It's again similar to other features of NDEs. Indigenous people in a rainforest won't see a Greek city, and New Yorkers won't see an African savanna.

Tibetan Book of the Dead that addresses this. It states that at death the ‘Dharma-Kaya of Clear Light’ (i.e. the Absolute) will be experienced in whatever form will most comfort and calm the individual. As the book’s translator, Kazi Dawa-Samdup (1868–1922), clarified: "Thus, to appeal to a Shaivite devotee, the form of Shiva is assumed; to a Buddhist, the form of the Buddha Shakya Muni; to a Christian, the form of Jesus; to a Moslem, the form of the Prophet; and so on for other religious devotees; and for all manners and conditions of mankind a form appropriate to the occasion."

There is just the one deity or "Absolute" as the Tibetans believe, and it is perceived in different ways by different individuals, or there are a number of them and they come specifically to those who believe in them.

The only indigenous examples I know of in which NDEs have Christian features is when they've already been converted or otherwise exposed to missionary teachings.
