The 8 Phases of EMDR
1. History Taking and Treatment Planning: Understanding the client’s background to tailor the treatment effectively.
2. Preparation: Establishing trust/rapport and explaining the treatment process.
3. Assessment: Identifying the target traumatic memory, the negative beliefs associated with it and the levels of reaction.
4. Desensitization: Using bilateral stimulation to reduce the emotional impact of the memory.
5. Installation: Strengthening positive beliefs to replace the negative ones.
6. Body Scan: Checking for any residual physical tension or response.
7. Closure: Ensuring the client leaves in a stable state.
8. Reevaluation: Assessing the client in subsequent sessions to ensure the therapy has been effective long term.
