Living the Wrong Lifestyle

Imitating the nonsensitive lifestyle is natural, especially for young adults, to behave like their peers. But when the sensitive live their lives like the nonsensitive, they are failing to take into account their different physiology.

The physiology of those who are sensitive means that, compared to others, they need more downtime to process the stimulation they have taken in and to reflect carefully on its meaning to them.

Sensitive people need help recognizing that they cannot live like the nonsensitive, given that invisible individual differences are hard for others to acknowledge and that the highly sensitive are so well designed to adapt to others.

If a sensitive person’s goal is to help others, can they really be effective while stressed out by fatigue? They need to see how their current choices fit with their values. Once a sensitive person can accept that it could be good to stop trying to be like others, they can think about the pleasure they might find in other goals or in taking more time for rest, reflection, creativity, or service.
